The second phase of the new Wacken Europe district is reaching a turning point this summer with the construction of the footbridge crossing the River Aar.

As part of this extensive development programme for the Wacken Europe district, a footbridge crossing the River Aar is part of a wider project to promote active modes of transport between the centre of Strasbourg, the European district and the surrounding neighbourhoods and municipalities to the north.

The structure will provide a passageway between the Aar park on the Schiltigheim side and the park currently under development at the north of the new Archipel 2 district on the Strasbourg side, where several European institutions are located.

4 metres wide and 130 metres long, the footbridge will allow pedestrians and cyclists to share the space and will blend into the landscaped surroundings, preserving views of the European Parliament thanks to its lightweight wooden structure and transparent design.

More than €3 million is being invested by the Eurometropolis, with €1 million from the State as part of the Three-Year Contract 2024–2026.
